You might see a cat while taking a bit of milk from the fridge and think, "would that cat like some?" The answer is probably yes, but please do not let them have too much. Cats are actually lactose intolerant, meaning they can get sick if they have milk or any type of dairy product.
That is one of the things that cat owners should know, but that's not all!
You've probably seen a cat knock something over before, and that does happen sometimes, but it is usually your actions that may lead them into doing that. Cats are VERY smart (and cute) creatures that understand knocking something over will get your attention. The one thing they do not know, though, is why you might be mad. If you would like them to stop, please pay attention and give care to them while they are not actively knocking stuff over, because they might just want to play with you!
Cats' claws can be painful for them if they aren't used or trimmed for a while, and the cat might go looking for something to scratch to make sure that doesn't happen. That may be your furniture, but don't worry, a few scratching posts could help draw your cat's attention away from furniture and other items they may want to scratch. You should also trim their claws so they don't hurt or get stuck on anything.
Please NEVER declaw a cat. Declawing could lead to paw pain, back pain, and infections.
Do try to not clean a cat unless it's absolutely necessary. There are some cases when you should, though; if they don't have any fur, they have some type of issue with their fur or skin, or if their self-cleaning would be ineffective or harm them.
If you do clean a cat, make sure y0u are calm and careful with them so they don't get stressed the next time you need to.
Cats are often seen as aloof or lazy. This is the case for some cats, usually when they're older, but cats can actually be really playful in some cases. Their playfulness is often affected by age and breed, so check both to determine how much you should play with them. Don't ever ignore cats when they want attention.
Many people think cats don't need much attention from people, and they might not need as much as dogs do, but they actually love their owners and playing with them. Cats aren't just "okay" with their people, they may not just show their affection the ways dogs/people do. If you see a cat, spend your time with them, I'm sure they'll appreciate it!
Cats roll over to show their 'weak spot,' which is used to show trust. Some people decide to pet them while they do this, which you should never do unless you are absolutely sure the cat does not care, and it usually ends up with a scared cat and many scratches. I'm sure you have seen a hissing cat before, probably thinking "that cat is mean," but you might not know what they're actively trying to tell you. A hiss is the kitty language for a loud and possibly offensive "STOP" or "GO AWAY!"
